Mahan is assigned to Combined Task Force 151, a multinational task force established to conduct counter-piracy operations in and around the Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Red Sea.

My son, Ronald, is on the USS Mahan (DDG 72). He will be coming home soon. Yayee!

According to this article they are operating with the newly formed Combined Task Force (CTF) 151 conducting counter piracy operations but as required remain available to conduct a wider range maritime security operations with CTF 150.

The Combined Task Force 151 is a multinational task force conducting counter piracy operations to detect and deter piracy in and around the Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and Red Sea. It was established to create a lawful maritime order and develop security in the maritime environment.

Yeah, that means that they go after the pirates. Arrrghh!
